Standard merchant selling price for greens
Why is it that greens have such a low selling price when you sell them to merchants? Even when identified, they sell for very low prices at the merchant. Considering the rarity of their drop rate, you would think that their default sell price would be a set number. As it is, you're more likely to get golds and sell them for more than an underused green. They should be standardized to at least 100g (400g-1k would be even better) imho.
Thoughts?

My guess would be that the original intent of having the low rates set up like that was to encourage trade between players, as has been the reasoning behind other merchant related issues (tomes come to mind right away). Even now that the market is so beyond saturated for most of the greens out there people are still generally willing to buy most of them for 1k or so (might take a while and I'm not convinced it would be worth the effort really). I guess that would still mean that the system is intending to have players at least attempt to sell them to other players.
The other thing that came to mind was the pretty similar situation for rare crafting materials. I'd venture to say that rubies and sapphires and whatnot drop less often than greens, and yet their sell value to the merchant is less than most golds. But then again rare materials traders exist and a green trader does not, so maybe they have nothing in common.
As I don't farm all that often and rarely get greens when I do adjusting the prices isn't something I'd really prioritize... I wouldn't complain if it happened, but methinks that it would just be giving the heavy farmers more money, and since we lack enough gold sinks as it is I suspect there won't be too many endorsements of this idea.
For me, /apathetic

I've already said I wouldn't really complain if the prices were raised, so don't take this as sarcastic or as a troll... but if you identify them you'll often get an additional 11-15 gold out of it. I've had some in the 60s before... still pretty low, but if you have a lot it'll add up over time. I haven't really paid too close attention to this, but if my memory serves me right two identical greens may yield different prices after you id them. Not sure why this would be the case, though.

They have that price so you give them away to friends, guildies or newbies instead of selling them.
They actually should have value: 0.

100g for greens sounds good. Idk about end game greens, last time I checked they couldn't be merched.

the price is low becuz of over farming, and becuz merchants dont know that the weapon is unique and they have no use for magical weapons as they are merchants. its like comparing any green, with its non unique blue or white normal drop...the merchant doesnt know the differance. but in all honesty i agree with mithran

Actually, the white or blue likely is more "valuable" to the merchant, for some reason...

Merch values of weapons are directly connected to the quantity and/or quality of materials that can be salvaged from them. The value lies only in the materials.
And Greens are just not meant to be salvaged for materials. While some of them can be salvaged (or could be, in the past), they yield really low outcome - similar to low value whites.

Greens are not considered rare so a low price. But 50g and less? Thats a truly measley amount for an item with nice mods. Maybe the fact that they are not customizable or salvagable is supposed to lessen their appeal..
Who knows. 35g for Mallyxs Reaver.. I think not !

Green items were a good idea that's had its day.
They should be the best weapons in the game better than gold weapons but they are not.
It seems logical that the powerful creatures would use the best weapon they could get
Hopefully gw2 will randomise any elite boss weapons so they are as varied as gold weapons are now.
They should certainly be salvageable.

On an unrelated note, Green items are terrible anyways, because the only thing they have to surpass golds are unique skins.
Past that, golds can be crafted, upgraded, dyed, and changed at will, which makes them infinitely better.
On topic, greens already have a value of 35, and that doesn't really need to go anywhere.

i voted for no
okay yea sure i'd like to get more money on some green i can't get rid of
but in most cases i can just give them away in town to new people who find 1k alot
so /notsigned
you'll make people happier giving those greens away instead of earning another 1k (wich isn't alot)

Unidentified greens might be 35g, but identified greens for for 50-100gp, at least the few that I have found. If I remember correctly, I merched a set of Claws of the Broodmother for 125 at one point. Mostly though, claws ID to about 50-60.
